I'm a married father of four (twin 4 year old boys, a 3 year old boy, and a 6 month old daughter). Naturally having such a large, young family makes training hard as it is, but my kids are part of why I try to fit training into my schedule around family life and my job as a shift supervisor with the Laurens Police Department.
Aside from family, training and racing (with friends when possible), I enjoy studying the American Revolution and anything involving the outdoors with what little time is leftover.
While cycling is my favorite sport, I have a deep connection to triathlon since that is the first sport I competed in and hope to focus on it again when my kids are older and I'm able to dedicate more time to training for all three disciplines. Needless to say, my competitive focus for 2020 is running because it is the easiest sport to train for with my family/work schedules and I have set a personal goal of meeting the qualifying standards for the Boston Marathon before I turn 40.
In addition to my already crazy schedule, I have recently started a blog to write, primarily, about events I race and gear I use. I started the blog because I enjoy writing and while someone may find the content relative or useful, I will be able to go back and recall details of events I've participated in.
I began racing again in 2019 through two half-marathons and have managed to place third in my age group in the first while breaking 2 hours without training, as well as winning my age group in the second and setting a new PR of 1:42:27. Both results have led me to pursue more events and better results in 2020, as an example to my kids to always strive for improvement.
