I was a Division I college swimmer (distance freestyler) at Tulane University. After college, I took a long break from swimming and picked it up again in my 40s. Although I do most of my training in a pool, I do most of my competing in open water — in local, regional, and national open water events, generally longer events e.g. 5k and 10k. I have also completed marathon distance open water swims. Notable results from 2022:
- 10.6-mile “Vikingsholm” crossing of Lake Tahoe in 4:37:22, second fastest time on record. (August 9)
- Second place in 2022 USMS 10K Open Water National Championships, age group 55-59, in 2:28:36.8. (August 20)
I am also on the coaching staff of the Burlingame (CA) Aquatic Club Masters Swim Team where I coach swimmers of all adult ages, ages ranging from early 20s to 70s, and abilities from new-to-masters to Olympic medalists.
