I swam my fastest 5k ever today!
It was a most perfect morning for an open water swim race/event. I had signed up for the 5k Swim to the Moon with the intent of using it as a sort of taper distance before next week's Swim Around Mackinac Island. My swimming has been coming along nicely, and I've been feeling good about training over the last 3 weeks or so. This is a race and distance I did the very first year they had it. And have volunteered for it several other times. For a while, 1:45 had been a goal time. As soon as I hit the water, I felt strong and fast (for me). I knew I was doing well and it just seemed like I was motoring by other swimmers. My tangents between buoys were pretty solid. All was good! Stopping my watch right away crossing the finish line and seeing 1:44:04 was quite the thrill! Ended up 3rd overall wetsuit division, and 1st in AG. Not to shabby for a FOBS (Fat, Old, Bald and Slow)...
